“As we replenish our inner scarcities, we are helping to create a culture that values and provides for its visionaries and outcasts. As we smash the influence of the patriarchy within, we are giving rise to Eros in the world. We are changing consciousness from the inside outwards.”

Pilgrimage

A Pilgrimage of Remembrance, produced in 2015 and 2017, is the foundation from which all Wonderstory experiences continue to grow. Pilgrimage is a lamentation and renewal initiation for women of all ages, inspired by Nature and Rumi’s The Guest House.  This project is structured to offer communal reverence to our protectors, and to help us remember our kinship with the greater whole.

Enveloped by meadows and old growth trees on traditional Munsee Lenape and Wappinger land in New York, up to 40 women from all walks of life restore safety in vulnerability, metabolizing fear and heartbreak into loving connection and laughter. Pilgrimage is a celebration of life that includes Wonderstory ritual theatre, feasting, dreaming, and dancing.

Devised and led by Kala Iversen Smith, supported by 16 artistic midwives, Pilgrimage was developed over the course of 4 years in MOR (Mothering Ourselves Radically) circles. This core circle of women ventured into the complex terrain of remapping the patriarchal imprints that contaminate the care and expression of our life force.
